Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)

The Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) was established by the Texas Legislature to help well-prepared high school graduates with financial need attend public institutions of higher education in Texas. The purpose of this grant aid is to provide academic and continuing education students with financial need, who enroll in Texas Public two-year colleges. Funding is limited, so apply early!  .

Note: Funding is limited. Each year institutions try to award funds to as many eligible students as possible. However, all eligible students may not receive funding. Kilgore College is required to verify hours and whether a student previously received this grant through The Texas Coordination Board prior to awarding.

Funding Amounts for 2024-25:

$2,886 per term for two terms, total annual amount: $5772

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident
  • Be registered with Selective Service, or be exempt – if you are a male (the Texas State of Eligibility form is used for this)
  • Have financial need – current FAFSA is required to determine this
  • Be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student at an eligible 2-year institution
  • Initial Grant: Not have attempted more than 45 semester credit hours (excluding credits for dual enrollment or by examination)
  • Renewal Grant: Must have received the initial TEOG award and NOT have attempted more than 63 hours
  • Student Aid Index (SAI on FAFSA) cannot exceed $6472
  • Not have earned an associate or baccalaureate degree
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance (the Texas State of Eligibility form is used for this).

Required Documentation:

  • Current FAFSA
  • If FAFSA is selected for verification by the Department of Education – submit required documentation and complete verification.
  • Official high school/home school transcript or GED
  • Texas Statement of Eligibility – Must be notarized as it is an affidavit

To apply for this grant, you must click on the link below, print it out, fill it out and get it notarized. Once notarized, bring it to the Financial Aid office, located on the second floor of the Devall Student Center on the Kilgore campus.
