What This Means for You:
This allows you to achieve your academic goals and earn your AA, AS, or AAT degree fully online, with the flexibility to choose the courses that work best for you.
Online is just that – 100% distance education completed online. There are no requirements to come to campus. Hybrid uses online learning as a part of the course; however, there are some on campus requirements such as labs, clinicals, etc.
Although different classes may have different technical requirements, almost all online courses are offered through KC’s Blackboard software, a web-based learning system. Generally, you’ll interact with the instructor and other students via email, discussion boards, interactive chat rooms, video conferences, and/or phone.
Student and faculty feedback indicate that Chrome and Firefox are the best browsers for online learning at KC.
While most of our online platforms are mobile friendly, it is not possible to complete online courses using only a cell phone.
KC recommends using a standard PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer capable of running Office 365. Mobile devices such as a cell phone, Google Chromebook, or tablet computer (Apple IPad, Samsung Galaxy, Microsoft Surface) are discouraged as they may not provide the access and functionality needed.
High speed, reliable internet service. A mobile hot spot is not recommended.
Webcam, computer audio (headset or speakers), and microphone.
No, tests are taken online. Please note that some test proctoring services require a functional webcam and microphone be on throughout the duration of the test. In addition, many tests will require you to receive and use an authorization code that is sent via text to your cell phone.
Many of our online courses have zero textbook costs (ZTC) or use open educational resources.
Visit https://www.kilgore.edu/admissions/zero-textbook-cost-ztc-classes/ to see what classes are ZTC. Please note, however, some courses do require a small access fee and/or the purchase of traditional textbooks.
