TRUE grants available for students in certain Health Science training programs

Kilgore College Workforce Development-Health Sciences is pleased to announce that $271,350 in educational funds are available through the Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) Grant Program to students in the following programs at KC:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Pharmacy Technology
  • Certified Nurse Assistant
  • Medical Coding
  • Medical Assisting

Students enrolled in these continuing education (CE) health science programs can apply for financial aid to cover costs associated with these classes.

The TRUE grant program aims to accelerate the number of students enrolled in high-value, short-term credential opportunities. All of these programs can be completed in less than six months.

โ€œDemand for skilled workers in East Texas continues to grow, and ongoing funding from the Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) program will support recruitment efforts and incentivize enrollment,โ€ said Dr. Tracy Skopek, KC Vice President of Student Learning, Engagement and Student Success. โ€œWith this grant, CE students can benefit by possibly receiving funds to help pay for short-term training, leading to a family-living wage in high-demand career fields.โ€

These five courses will be available in online, hybrid and in-person formats.

Upon completing their studies, students will take a nationally recognized certification exam to earn a professional certificate, preparing them to work in health clinics, hospitals and other care facilities.

To qualify, students will need to: 1) complete a 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by visiting www.studentaid.gov; 2) submit an official high school transcript/GED; and 3) complete a Texas Statement of Eligibility affidavit.

Once the required steps are completed, students should contact Amber Paredes in the Financial Aid Office at aparedes@kilgore.edu or (903) 983-8217.
