KC surgical technology program accredited by CAAHEP, ARC/STSA

Kilgore College’s surgical technology program was officially accredited June 20 by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) – in collaboration with the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).

This accreditation means the surgical technology program at KC meets the highest standards of quality and rigor, preparing graduates for successful careers in the healthcare field.

KC’s surgical tech program was closed for five years, but was reopened in 2023 due to an increased demand for surgical technologists at local healthcare facilities.  Reopening the program resulted in having to re-apply for accreditation.

Surgical technologists – or surgical techs – work alongside doctors and nurses in the operating room. These highly trained professionals help prepare patients and operating rooms for surgery, and serve as an extra set of hands during surgical procedures.

The Surgical Technology Associate of Applied Science degree program at KC is a two-year program to prepare surgical techs to work in the medical field.
