Kilgore College was recently awarded an Emergency Aid Grant in the amount of $150,000 from Greater Texas Foundation to be dispersed over a period of three years. The grant will provide emergency aid funding for students, combined with technical assistance, to improve the emergency aid program at KC.
“We are so grateful to Greater Texas Foundation for this opportunity. Not only will this grant allow us to provide direct emergency aid services to our students, but our staff will also receive intensive training as well,” said Ebony Dennis, KC dean of support services & retention. “Our overall goal is help our students stay in school so they can reach their educational goals.”
Greater Texas Foundation is a private foundation based in Bryan, Texas that supports efforts to ensure all Texas students are prepared for, have access to, persist in and complete a postsecondary education.
Since its 2001 inception, the foundation has approved more than $150 million in grants to support Texas students. For more information, visit www.greatertexasfoundation.org.
“We believe that to best support students in their postsecondary journeys institutions must build robust support systems for students with significant financial challenges. An essential element of such support systems is emergency aid,” said Sue McMillin, Greater Texas Foundation president & CEO. “When implemented according to best practices, emergency aid support can mean the difference between students leaving college without a degree and a student becoming a college graduate.”
