Kilgore College, UT Tyler sign MOU for co-enrollment, seamless academic transition

Kilgore College and The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) continued their long history of partnership and cooperation March 21 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will create a new pathway to UT Tyler through KC.

The MOU allows students to co-enroll at both institutions. For the first two years, students will take the majority of their classes at KC, but are eligible to complete three credit hours per semester from a pre-approved list of UT Tyler courses – while attending KC.

“Concurrent enrollment will facilitate a smoother transition for students who plan to transfer from Kilgore College to UT Tyler,” said Dr. Tracy Skopek, KC’s vice president of instruction. “It will also simplify the transfer process, ensuring students have the necessary prerequisites and credits to seamlessly continue their education at UT Tyler.”

Students who fulfill the program requirements will finish their bachelor’s degree at UT Tyler. Credits earned at UT Tyler can also be applied toward an associate’s degree from KC, meaning participating students can earn two college degrees in just four years.

“We are delighted to expand our longtime partnership with Kilgore College and create this co-enrollment plan to better serve students in and around the Kilgore College district,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “By working together and offering co-advising, students will have a much clearer picture of their degree plan, which will, in turn, help reduce the time and the cost for their four-year degree completion.”
