Transferring to a college or university shouldn’t be difficult. We want to make your transition seamless.
By following the steps below, you’ll be able to gather comprehensive information about the degree program you’re interested in at the college or university you’re transferring to.
Go to the official website of the university you are transferring to. Most college or university websites will have detailed information about transferring your credits.
Look for a section labeled “Academics,” “Programs,” or “Departments.” This is usually found in the main menu or under a specific tab on the homepage.
Search for your specific degree program by name. This might involve browsing through different departments or using a search bar.
Once you find your degree program, read through the detailed information provided. This typically includes:
If you have specific questions or need more information, reach out to the university’s admissions office. You can usually find their contact information on the website under “Contact Us” or “Admissions.”
If feasible, schedule a visit to the campus. This can provide a better understanding of the program and allow you to meet faculty and current students.
If you’re transferring to another public school in Texas, you can use the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) website. This site lets you compare courses between institutions to find equivalent course numbers for transferable classes. Additionally, you can search for the Transfer Guide on the college’s website.
Reverse transfer refers to the process by which students who have transferred from a community college to a four-year university can transfer credits they have earned at the university back to the community college. This is done so that the student can be awarded an associate degree from the community college.
Here’s how it typically works:
If you transfer to a university before completing an Associate degree at Kilgore College, you can transfer your new college’s courses back to KC to determine if you qualify for a degree! Contact our Registrar’s Office at (903) 983-8606 or contact the transfer office (903) 983-8602. A minimum of 25% of the degree requirements must be completed at KC. In most cases this is 15 credit hours.Â
Yes, you can transfer to another school before completing your degree at KC.
Check with your intended school to find out:
Some universities might recommend:
Many universities accept 60-90 credit hours for certain majors. Completing more credits at KC can reduce both the time and cost of your education.
An articulation agreement means that classes you take at one school will count when you transfer to another school. It’s like a promise between two schools to accept the credits you’ve earned toward your degree.
The State of Texas does not provide funds to state institutions of higher education for excess semester credit hours attempted by a resident undergraduate student. The non-resident tuition rate will be charged beginning with the term after the student reaches the maximum number of credit hours attempted in excess of the degree requirement.
Excess credit hours are those hours attempted by a resident undergraduate student that exceed by more than 30 hours the number of hours required for completion of the bachelor degree program in which the student is enrolled. If the baccalaureate degree the student is pursuing requires 120 hours, the student must achieve that degree by the time he/she has completed 150 hours of credit. For purposes of excess hours, a resident undergraduate student includes a non-resident student who is permitted to pay resident tuition.
The semester credit hours counted toward the limitation include all hours attempted except:
Hours earned through examination without registering for a course are always excluded from the maximum number of hours allowed at the resident rate. Additionally, effective Fall 2009, dual credit hours are excluded from the maximum number of hours allowed at the resident rate.
